Miracast with Chromecast
« on: July 19, 2014, 10:44:58 AM »
Maybe some don't know that Google incorporated Miracast into Chromecast
a couple of weeks ago for supported devices(e.g. Nexus 10,which I have).
The Sero 7 Pro is not a supported device, but a developer at XDA has written
an App that can be used with Chromecast, that works with a lot of devices.

It mostly works with this tablet. The video casts, but not the audio
with the Rom's I tried.
At first I thought fooey, but after awhile it is not bad, especially when
other people are around.

To make it work you must have a Rom with at least 4.4.1 installed.
I tried it with LiquidSmooth and Dopa 4.4.4. and they both work
but with a different reaction to playing music, which I won't elaborate here.
Maybe other Rom's will behave differently.

You can head over here:

and give it try if you wish.

Glad it worked for someone. I tried both those ROMs and Google Play services just crashed every time I tried to cast from the chromecast app.

Google Music also didn't work right with either ROM. Strange that I could cast Google Music to the chromecast and it worked fine but if it was being played on the Sero, it would freeze the tablet and reboot the device.

Got too frustrated and went back to Dopa ver 2. Everything works flawlessly (but no mirroring to chromecast). Not a big deal since my HTC M8 don't work either and I am hesitant to root just yet. I have audio and video apps that cast so mirroring is not a necessity.

Hopefully the next Chromecast update adds more device support.

Cynycl:

Did you install the mirror enabling app from r3pwn at XDA?

Yes. It gives me the cast option but when I used it it tried to load on the chromecast but fails and GP services crashes

Sorry to hear that. If you haven't completely given up, I can think of a couple
of things to check for. Make sure Google Play Services is at v. 5.0.84 and
the Chromecast app is v. 1.7.4.

One other thing that is easy to forget. When using the mirror enabler app and
enabling the two options of Mirror Status and Force-Close Fix,one must reboot
for those to take effect.

Good luck.
