Anjalena,
Here's a thread about rooting:
http://sero7forum.com/sero-7-root-hack-mod-and-development/rooting-is-it-necessary-and-what-does-it-do/

The ROM (Read Only Memory) contains the operating system software which runs your device. Rooting makes changes to this.  Sorry to take so long getting back to you, I'll try to check the forum more often. Please let me know ifyu have more questions. "Lucky Me" has posted very specific directions on how to root and install various custom ROMs, and her guides are detailed and excellent, and you'll find them in the forum.

Another couple of quick questions. In another post, Laura replied:

Yes,  you will need to be rooth and yes I rooted my tablet within an hour or two of ownership.  I am using the. DoPa v2.0 custom rom.

In my opinion, you are missing out on way too many features when you're not rooted,  ....

I'm wondering what types of benefits and features specifically can you gain from being rooted. I know you couldn't possibly list ALL of them, but just some major ones that come to mind. One that I know of that I LOVE is being able to uninstall the pre-installed software that you don't need. What else?

ALSO, and this seems to be very important: How do you go about making a "Nandroid"?  (which I believe is the name for a full backup of your device's system? Eh?

Hi Holly,
You will find directions to root and install a custom ROM in the "Root, Hack Mod and Development" forum (if you have not already been there). If yu value your privacy, only when rooted can you control every aspect of what an app can do using the Xposed Framework and Xprivacy (there are other modules that can help with this). You can control if apps have access to the internet very easily with AFWall+. You can control which apps start up automatically - very useful, since your RAM is limited. You can access every app installed, including system apps. You can use the terminal emulator go get into the nitty-gritty of the system. With 5.x, you can automatically have most apps and their data stored on the SD card rather than in internal storage. And that is just scratching the surface.

I don't have any experience with the Sero 8. You might find an answer in the mods and hacks forum. Wish I could be of more help.

Sorry you have not had a response for a week now.

If you can get to google play, download and install Malwarebytes and run the scanner. It will tell you if you have a virus, and hopefully, will wipe it out. You can also try Avast, another antivirus. Both are free.

I finally got to the point that figured I knew how to make android reasonably secure, so after quite a bit or research I bought a refurb LG G4 H811 (T-Mobile) phone on Ebay for about $170. The screen is spotless, 3 gb ram and 23gb available on the sd card - plus an external sd card and a replaceable battery. I flashed Cyanogen 13, pico gapps, su and xposed, the cpu is very fast, and I'm a happy camper. One oddity is that Disconnect - the vpn I use - does not work with US servers, but it works well and fast using German or European servers. They (Disconnect) are investigating. I have only had the phone for a few weeks, but I realy like it except for one "feature". It's really hard to answer the phone! You have to get the phone icon on the screen and swipe it to the right. I can't do this with one hand. But updating is very simple, as you just download the Cyanogen updates, and TWRP flashes the update on its own. I only had to reflash su and xposed manually. Pretty neat!

Flashing TWRP was a chore, as only my Win 10 micro would handle adb and fastboot - I tried other pcs for a week with no success.

Hi there,
I don't have an answer for you, but there is a battery recommendation in one of the forums, with directions on swapping out the battery. I also seem to recall a series of posts about wifi issues like the one you describe, and instructions on opening the case to fix it. You need to search the forums here.

You should check the "root, hack, mod and development" forum, you will most likely find an answer there. Sorry you have not received a reply until now. Good luck,

Sero 7 Pro Accessories / Re: MagCable ... magnetic cables.

Makes you wonder - did the developers provide the funders of this Kickstarter project beta versions? This is most likely the last time I'll participate in a Kickstarter anything. I have contacted both the project and Kickstarter and only received a notice relating to Lightning connectors (Apple).

I received mine, very disappointed that the tips (that should fit the mini-usb slot) do not fit. They just don't plug in. To make sure that they were not micro-usb, I tried them in a micro-usb slot on another device. They did not fit that either.

Well, I finally got a notice from them that my cables have shipped from China. It has been quite a while. I hope they live up to their promise.

Thanks, Laura, I'll see if I can find anything. Isn't there an app that lists wakelocks?

Sero 7 Help / GPS Won't Shut Off - Draining Battery
« on: March 23, 2016, 04:36:33 PM »
So I have Location set to off, and prior to that set location to wifi only. Still, my GPS won't shut off. I'm running Dopa 5.1. Rebooting has no effect. This began a week or so ago, and I can't see a reason for it. Any suggestions appreciated.
Thx,
Shneor

This may be a long shot, but are you using a firewall? If so, it's possible that you may have to specifically allow communication with your Sero.
