I was wondering about what Hisense has been up to and found a new face in their tablet family.  So I thought I would share.

It seems they like the rockchip 3288 processor.

http://system-on-a-chip.specout.com/l/1112/Rockchip-RK3288

first on the list is the vidaa Mirror running lollipop... Originally announced as the vidaa Mirror with a 7 inch screen, the tablet was redesigned and re-named the Magic Mirror with a larger screen.

Not released yet, You can read about it below.  It's only available in china.

http://liliputing.com/2016/01/hisense-vidaa-mirror-is-an-android-tablet-for-bezel-haters.html

you can really get a good idea of how they redesigned the charging port in the photos at the link below.  ;)

The other tablet on the list - F5281 is the Sero8 pro.  The UK release of the Vidaa 8.  It has a different kernel from the Vidaa and a slightly smaller camera size.  I am aware of one custom ROM available for the vidaa and the Sero8 pro.  There could be more, but I haven't checked around.  I'm pretty happy with the performance on my Vidaa w/k.k.

Sero 7 Apps / ESfile Explorer.... now with ads
« on: November 24, 2015, 08:45:58 PM »
Ok.  If you're using esfile explorer File manager, you probably noticed during a recent update they added ads.

If you see the reviews on google play, you'll see all the complaints!

I've used it for almost 4 yrs.  I don't plan on changing at the moment.  But I won't use it with ads.  And they added a cleaner too, which is really annoying, imo.

I went back to a past version, using a backup.  so that's an option if you don't want the ads.

After installing the app, a window will open and ask you if you want to update the app.  You will need to choose 'turn off auto updating' so the app doesn't update on you.  That could get really annoying....  ;)

My first tutorial in the fastboot series.  In this tutorial you'll learn how to boot into a temporary custom recovery to manage your tablet or files.  Maybe one day you will find yourself stuck in a bootloop.. unable to access recovery.  But Fastboot works.  This process could really help you out.  Or maybe you find your recovery has been corrupted and can't flash.  Or maybe you need to flash a CWM backup, but you have TWRP or Philz flashed.  You don't have to flash back and forth-  Just a few instances when you might need to fastboot a temporary recovery.

prerequisite: You must have fastboot installed and working on your PC.  If not, follow the link here: http://sero7forum.com/sero-7-root-hack-mod-and-development/fastboot/msg8348/?topicseen#new

* Create a desktop folder for fastboot purposes.  It just makes life easier.  I have mine named "fastboot".   ::) .. very creative... and another one called sero 7 pro lollipop.  Whatever you want.

*
download/ copy/ paste the custom recovery you want to use into the folder.  For the tutorial I will use the New  TWRP 2.8.7 beta recovery released today by DoloresPark.

*   Highlight the zip file and extract it into the same desktop fastboot folder.

*  this is what it will look like extracted - the name of the file.img

*  open a command window in your  fastboot folder (or whatever you named it) by using shift and right click.

* Place your tablet in Fastboot mode - with the tablet powered off use the power button and the colume + key together until you see 'Fastboot". Then connect your tablet to the PC with the hisense data cord. (ok, I cheat here a lot.  ;)  )

*
type:fastboot devices  (verify your device is connected)

*
type:fastboot boot yourRECOVERYname.img   (example: twrp.img, philz.img, CWM_recovery.img, ...whatever your recovery .img is named after you have unzipped it in your fastboot folder.

In the example below you will see I have my command window open in Sero7 pro lollipop folder and I am temporarily booting to philz recovery.

The tablet SHOULD boot to the recovery.  (this isn't flashing it)  Now use the touch screen to complete your desired task.  When you're done reboot system on the tablet.  properly disconnect from PC.

Type:exit in command window to close your fastboot session.

Sero 7 Pro Root, Hack, Mod and Development / Fastboot
« on: September 10, 2015, 02:05:44 PM »
Hi everyone.  I'm going to be doing a few tutorials on doing some specific things using fastboot.  The pre requisite will be having fastboot installed and usable.  If you don't already have it installed, this is, imho, the best guide for doing so.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277112

after getting it installed properly, test to make sure the drivers are working properly:

put your sero in 'fastboot' mode - power and volume + .   Unlike recovery, Fastboot doesn't have a menu.  Just the fastboot screen.  That's it, you're in fastboot mode.

connect tablet to the pc. You'll hear the tablet connect (if PC volume is turned on )

open a command window.  I have opened my command window in my Sero7 desktop folder. (shift and right click)

type: fastboot devices  (press enter)

You should see your device listed -  you are now ready for use!

type: Fastboot reboot (press enter, tablet will reboot ) and disconnect from the pc.

type: exit (press enter)  to exit fastboot and command window will close.

install the latest version.  If you have an older version you can uninstall it, empty the recycle bin, and reboot.  then install the updated version.

stay tuned for my tutorials!

Don't wait until you need it.  this is a good time to get a little experience with fastboot.  Then if you need it, it  won't be so intimidating.

Don't know how I missed this, maybe because Chromebooks have never appealed to me...but it appears the Sero8 PRO was scrapped in favor of this chromebook.

It has the 3288 rockchip. Yup, that's what it looks like to me!

Thinking of buying one?  Check this site first to be sure it's compatible with the carrier you want to use.

 Xiaomi -  pronounced: Shaw-Me

I came across this tablet by accident.  It looks like an awesome tablet.  A little pricey, but appears the prices are coming down.  The specs look pretty awesome.  I'm seriously starting to wonder if the Sero8 PRO is ever going to hit the USA market!  So if you're looking for an 8" tablet.  Want to stay with Tegra.  A tablet with development. (check XDA forums.  Lots of development with it.  Root. CM. MIUI updates.) Check it out.  NO GPS.

If you don't like the MIUI interface (the Vidaa had this UI) you can use another launcher.

Only one seller selling the 16gb version below $200.00 (until midnight).

The battery is impressive at 6700 mAh.  the vidaa/Sero8 PRO is 4400,  with the screen at 2048X1536, with the Vidaa and constant use (streaming music, checking emails, FB)- you're looking at 5-6 hrs.
