USB OTG adaptor
« on: August 13, 2013, 05:47:07 PM »
Tried finding a USB OTG(on the go) adaptor or cable locally today with no luck. You wouldn't think something that simple would be so hard to find. Well I'll just have to order it. I was hoping to test how well a USB flash drive would work with the sero pro.

The OTG adaptor itself is the least of your problems.  As of now, accessing external storage using the OTG adaptor doesn't work.  After rooting, and installing a ROM that will permit the access you are after, then you will be able to access the external memory.

In the meantime, just plug in a MicroSD memory card and enjoy.  ;D

I purchased the otg adapter-waited two weeks from china -Twice- neither will work. I've tried several different hubs with them also.  Still nothing. And the same with my venus tablet.

I will just transfer my stuff to another micro sd. It's less frustrating.

I've already installed a 32GB micro SD, works great. I was just hoping to test it's ability to access external storage. My Acer A200 and Galaxy S2 have this ability

So do they  claim OTG support and it doesn't work or they don't claim to support it.

OTG support works for everything BUT accessing external memory.  This is all by design.
Yeah, I know, that's the one thing that we want the most.   :(

What possible purpose can that serve?

Well, none that I can think of, unless you want to plug in a keyboard or mouse or game controller, etc...   ;)

Sorry, I didn't ask that question right.  I know the other functions of OTG, what I meant was why would they exclude the ability to access external storage on purpose

Thanks

THAT is the right question.
I don't have a good answer to that one.  It seems really strange to me also.

External memory is the number one thing that users want/need.

this is the otg cable I purchased.  It works great on the Sero for a mouse.  (My HP memory can't be read)

I purchased this OTG cable from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005QX7KYU/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It works just fine - I have, however, rooted my S7.  I had trouble getting it to work for a while with USB storage devices (i.e. USB sticks) until I read somewhere about the Nexus Media Importer app ($3.99).  Works great for connecting my 16gb thumb drives and watching videos from them, playing music from them, or viewing my pictures.  Files can be moved to/from the thumb drive as well as deleted.  Not the easiest UI I've ever seen but it does the job I was looking for and at a great price too.

Cool 8)  I read about that little app but just assumed it was Nexus specific. I guess I should have figured as pure vanilla Android as the Nexus is that it would work on most other Android devices. I wonder if the Admin can post theapp address as a sticky?
