Ad blocking
« on: September 06, 2013, 10:12:02 AM »
Anyone know of an app or a way to block ads on a non rooted Sero 7? Especially pop ups on the browsers? Seems like the pop up blocker on browsers don't work very well.

It helps a lot thank you. I kinda wish I can find a good way to block ads on Dolphin browser though, its by far my favorite browser but the ads drive me nuts.

I tried Dolphin for a while, and opera mini, and a couple others.  I ended up going back to the stock.  It works best for me.  After setting my bookmarks I've been pretty happy.  The only sites I get ads on are developer sites, mostly xda.

I don't have any apps with  ads.  I won't use them. I find something else or after testing the ad one, I buy it.

Yeah I'm that way with apps too, but I'm pretty picky with browsers.

I use adblock plus.  you can find it here https://adblockplus.org/en/android-install
Works well and runs quietly in the background.  Since I've been using it I haven't noticed any ads other than opening screen ads which some apps employ.

Thanks. AdBlock Plus doesn't work for Dolphin Browser but it does work for Dolphin Mini, which for me is good enough for me. Now I can surf the web in peace :)

Hopefully it will soon work with the regular Dolphin.

I do have Dolphin Browser on my tablet, its my preferred browser, and I don't get any ads at all.  The only ad block app I have is adblock plus.  I'm not sure what ads you are seeing but I have an ad-free experience with Dolphin.

Try going to http://vodly.to/?sort=featured (its a site to watch movies) and click on the search. You don't need to search anything before you get ads, just clicking to search for a movie is enough. I can close them but it gets really annoying. If you don't get them then its probably just me.

Do you not get pop ups while clicking on stuff through the website? If not, how do you have your Ad block set up?

I use adblockplus with the built in browser. I stopped using dolphin for a while until I got this email.

Hello

Thank you for your feedback.
You can download AdBlock Add-on here: http://dolphin.com/lab/en.
Please install Dolphin Jetpack to make AdBlock work.
Cheers,
Dolphin Support Team

Edit: only problem is that link doesn't go to ABP. Not sure why they say it does, but the point is its out there for dolphin jetpack.

When I go to the website provided by Stuffedbigfoot I also have a problem with multiple new windows opening up. Of course I'm not using any form of ad blocking.

Stuffedbigfoot if you solve this issue I'd be interested in how you did it.

Thanks

Sorry Stuffedbigfoot, Nothing popped up but small ads did appear such as download and ads for mobogenie too.  Maybe we need a different blacklist subscription.
