Bluetooth speakers
« on: July 04, 2015, 10:41:34 AM »
I need to get some kind of speakers for my covered patio, and wondered if bluetooth speakers might be a good choice, with audio transmitted from my Sero 7 Pro.  I have zero experience with bluetooth, and would appreciate some info on how this works.

Let's say I've downloaded a bunch of mp3 files to my S7P.  Do I use the Play Music app to select and play the music?  If so, how do I tell it to send the audio out over bluetooth instead of playing it locally?  Or do the speakers come with their own Android app that handles that?

I would appreciate any info on how this works.  Or a link to that if one exists.  Thanks very much.  If it matters, I have rooted my S7P, but not made any other changes.  So it's still Android 4.2.1, build P756.6.02.20.00.

Hi peabody.

The S7P works GREAT with bluetooth speakers. It pairs well with most i have tried. ("Pair" is fancy bluetooth language for connecting!)

Your tablet will automatically play through your bluetooth speaker,  after turning on bluetooth,  pairing the device,  selecting the music and hitting play.

One exception… .if another device is already paired,  say your pnone- or another family member's device (even if the device isn't actually playing) you have to disconnect them first. Then your tablet can pair.

Settings > bluetooth> turn it on > click on bluetooth > search for available devices (click "only visible to paired devices" if you don't see "search for available devices". Find your bluetooth device and click on it. Pair it. (Rename it if you want) choose your music,  play it. :)

If you're in the states,  and have a big lots,  their proscan speakers are pretty good. really good sound quality,  and a remote control,  fm radio too. I have two. Livingroom and patio. I think they were $45.00. They have bigger ones too.

Walmart has some good ones too,  but cost more.

there's also ebay.

Happy 4th!

Thanks, Laura, but I believe you have flashed a much later rom to your S7P.  I still have the factory rom, and I've found posts at various places reporting a bug in BT in Android 4.2.1.  Apparently, BT operates ok until the screen times out and turns off, and then BT starts breaking up, with repeated short gaps in the audio.  So I need to confirm with you or someone that BT speakers do work properly under the factory 4.2.1.

But other than that, it sounds pretty straightforward.  And I happen to have a Big Lots about 4 miles away, so thanks for that reference.

Well that's news to me. Never heard that before. Are you talking about S7P stock? Or 4.2 in general?

If no one shows up to confirm it works or not on stock,  I'll flash stock Sunday night or monday morning and test it. BUT,  I used serolicous (stock without bloatware) for a while and don't recall BT issues. But it's been a while…

I think it's a general 4.2.1 issue, not just Hisense.  Here's a good summary:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/other-tablets/297370-bluetooth-issue-hisense-sero-7-pro.html

Please don't bother reinstalling the stock rom just to check this.  Looking at the reviews of the Big Lots speaker, it has options for using a thumb drive or SD card, which should be good enough.  Plus, if my S7P doesn't work with it, my laptop should.  And of course I can always come back for more instructions from you for flashing something newer than 4.2.1.  :-)

Still, it's a very odd problem, don't you think?

On the Proscan speakers, you were recommending the sound bar version, but I was looking at the Youtube reviews of the tower speaker, which would work better for me on the patio.  I assume they are very similar electronically.  What do you think?

Edit:  Just got back from Big Lots.  They don't have the soundbar you were recommending, and the tower speaker is now a much inferior version.  So it's back to the drawing boards on speaker selection.

Yeah,  that's the problem with big lots,  diffrent stores have different products. I have seen the towers. There's more than one version. Even one with flashing lights.

Thanks for the link. I've never heard of that bug.

It's no big deal for me to flash the stock. I'm really curious now…

I also have a creative speaker that pairs well,  available at frey. (Maybe walmart.com- the online site has more choices than the store) they are quality speakers. They come in different sizes.

Auvio Portable speaker.  Small but loud and great sound quality

Both pair well with the S7P.

Well…… .

Flashing the stock rom has turned out to be not so easy. I can't find a link to an older recovery that will flash it…

Still working o  it…   sorry.
