Hi Laura,
Read your replies and explanations very carefully, I think I understand most of it...

Yet, I need some clarifications about the external SD and how it is used by the device. We have 2 of these Sero 7 Pro tablets.  I have one and my wife has one. As mentioned in my previous entry, I created a Philz based Nandroid and all went well. When I was trying to create one on my wife's tablet it did not create is, and I received a message "not enough storage space". Mine has a 32GB SD card and my wife's has a 16GB SD card.
I created a second Ext2 partition on each of our SD cards. On the 32GB card, the FAT32 partition is about 20GB and the Ext2 is 12GB. On the second one, the FAT32 is about 10GB and the Ext2 partition is 6GB.

You wrote in your reply that you create Nandroid backup on Folders on your PC - So, am I correct to assume that Nandroids and backups are stored on the FAT32 partition?. What then is stored on the Ext2 partition. Do I just have to get a 32GB SD to solve the issue on my wife's tablet?, or just cleaning some old stuff (what) will solve the problem??

Thank you very much

Rami

This whole issue of what gets saved where on the SD card is not clear to me at all - If you could please explain this, it would be greatly appreciated...

You also wrote in your reply "Don't forget to clean up the 2nd partition occasionally." - Can you also please explain what I need to do here?

Regarding your reply for the "link2sd" - yes, that's exacly what I did...

Hi Rami,
The only reason to partition your external sd card is for Link2sd. If you don't use Link2sd, there is no reason to partition the sd card. Nandroid backups are stored in the normal FAT partition. The probable  reason for the out of space message is if you did not specify the external sd card as your backup target. There might be another cause, and you could search this site for "out of space message" to find out what it is; I vaguely remember something like that but can't think of the reason. But it was an easy fix.

Hi Shneor
Thank you very much for your reply.
Yes, I do use the Link2SD feature, but since this the only application that uses the second partition, may be I did not need it to be that big (6GB), I'll probably copy everything from the FAT portion of the SD card to my PC, re-partition the SD card and allocate less space for the second partition... This way I'll probably be able to create the Nandroid I wanted without running out of space???

Thanks
Rami

UPGRAGING TO DOPA 5.1
After contemplating for about a week whether to upgrade from Liquid Smooth to Dope 5.1, I decided to upgrade. All went well as far as the upgrade goes. Many of my personal & basic Google apps disappeared, which was something I expected.
In one of her replies to me, Laura (Lucky Me)”, wrote: “That way if you don't like lollipop,  you can boot to philz recovery, wipe cache & dalvik cache,  flash back your CWM recovery,  reboot recovery, wipe data, flash your Nandroid backup,  reboot system. you're back to liquid smooth.“, well, I might just do exactly that. So far, I’m not very impressed or excited at all about this Dopa upgrade (I was very excited when I upgraded to Liquid Smooth ).
Here are the things that I so far do NOT like about the Dopa..
1.   When Powering the device Off, it no longer gives you the options to choose between “Power Off”, “Reboot” & “Airplane Mode” – I liked this feature very much (yes, I know they are available somewhere else…).
2.   The built in Keyboard is horrible (very thin and flimsy looking black letters, on a very bright white background, and the numbers are even worse)… I download from the play store one that resembles the one I had before…..
3.   The device Settings has been completely changed, and again, unfortunately, not for the better (again, just my opinion…). I guess one can get used to it with time… but… why fix it if it ain’t broke?..
4.   I find also that the booting process takes quite a bit longer compared to LS (about 3 to 4 minutes compared to about two minutes, or less before).
5.   Also, just using it for opening apps, closing apps and many other activities – it seems slower and more sluggish than LS??
I am not rushing to revert back to LS yet. I would appreciate any feedback, input, suggestions from your experience with Dopa 5.1
Thanks
Rami

Hi Rami,
My experience with moving from LS to Dopa 5.1 does not auite jibe with yours. Yes, it takes awhile to boot, but it's definitely faster than LS. Wifi and GPS are more sensitive. As far as the settings, it's just the Android 5.1 standard. You have found solutions to other issues. So,  have you used the Performance setting? Turn it on to increase cpu and gpu speed and to add the reboot option to the power menu. That shoiuld help.

Hi Shneor,
Thanks for your input, I'll definitely implement your suggestions..

I am willing to try anything that'll make this upgrade experience a more positive one for me. I'm getting there i hope :)

Thanks again

I think dopa v2.7 (or latest if that's not the latest) and Liquid smooth are quicker than lollipop.  I like the look of lollipop. I like the pastel colors. I never use the stock keyboard so I can't comment on that.
You can swith to the dark theme,  maybe you would like that better.

You can add options to the boot menu like shneor said.

You ask why fix something that's not broken?  because people expect updates.  So they have to improve the FW. And some improvements have to be noticeable,  that's what it seems like to me anyway.

I should be specific: My Sero (Dopa 5.1) without any gapps is definitely faster than Liquidsmooth.

Hi Rami,

Per my signature:

ainol Venus is a 7" chinese tablet. My very first tablet and is subjected to quite a bit of flashing abuse. :)  its been flashed close to 4 or 5 hundred times ( yeah crazy,  I know) and still going strong. Anyone with a venus in need of help can find me at slatedroid.com.  firomi is a polish developer,  i use his rom on my venus, sometimes.

The vidaa pad 8 is the chinese version of the sero8 pro tablet. Oma is the deveoper who had the root package and developed a custom rom for me,  for the vidaa tablet. Version 1.1.

Sorry to say,  neither one of those roms are compatible with the sero7 pro.

So what's your verdict on lollipop? Are you sticking with it?

Thanks Laura for your replies, I thought that those items in your signature were some additional ROMS you installed on the Sero 7 Pro that Could have been of interest to me (:???.

Regarding the verdict on Lollipop - I made all the changes of the issues that bothered me: Boot - added Recovery and Airplane Mode), Also replaced the stock keyboard with one that I really liked and that also allows multiple languages, and sound with key strokes...Overall it's nice and I'll probably keep it - YET, it's still sluggish and slower that LS used to be, any suggestions on how to improve speed???, Is Over Clocking safe, would you recommend doing it??

Thanks
Cheers

Hi Rami.

Some S7Ps work great with overclocking..some don't.  It's safe..unless your tablet doesn't like it. Try it! If you have issues,  turn it off. But yes,  some do people do see faster performance.

Also you can go to developer settings and cha ge all 3 animations scales to .5,  check force gpu rendering. To increase performance.

Happy 4th!

Hi Laura,
We were away for a few days and just saw your reply.
Thank you very much for your continued help and suggestions...

Regarding "Some S7Ps work great with overclocking..some don't.  It's safe..unless your tablet doesn't like it. Try it! If you have issues,  turn it off. But yes,  some do people do see faster performance."

I would definitely would like to give it a try.. Remember, all this is new to me.. I learned A LOT from all you wonderful people on this site... I even did not know what it meant to flash a ROM...

So, can you please let me know what I have to do to "Overclock" my device???.

While at it, regarding "Try it! If you have issues,  turn it off" - can you also please let me know how to turn it off???

I did change all 3 animation scaled to 0.5 as you suggested... I'll let you know if I noticed any difference...

Thank you very much again
Cheers
Rami

Hello again Laura,

I did change the 2 settings you suggested: "change all 3 animation scales to 0.5" & "check force gpu rendering. To increase performance".  as you suggested...

I did notice some improvement, I would guess about 25% - 30% faster than before??,

THANKS
Rami

Hi Rami,

In lollipop, to turn on overclocking is easy.

Settings > performance > turn it on.

Use the slider to adjust it.  Turn it off or play around with adjustments if your tablet isn't responding well.  Freezing up, slow performance, ect...

You can also use rom toolbox pro under cpu control tab. Or just use rom toolbox to monitor.

There are other apps too. Two I use below.  3c cpu probably better for the sero. Use either an app, or the built in control. Not both together.

Kernel tuner
3c cpu manager
