Who is Hisense? Where are they headed?
« on: September 26, 2013, 08:46:51 AM »
I've read a couple interesting articles regarding Hisense, thought I shared.  The first article is dated from last fall, prior to the release of the Sero.  It has a couple interesting statements.

"It is currently working with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to develop new products. Hisense is sponsoring research at MIT's Media Lab, sending its own R&D specialists to work with faculty and students on developing smart TVs, including those with 3-D capabilities and voice recognition, and other electronics."

"Over the next five years, Hisense USA is likely to pursue mergers and acquisitions in North America, especially in the technology of software development and system integration, the executive said. A production plant in Mexico is already under consideration, he added."

You can read the full article here: http://usa.chinadaily.com.cn/epaper/2012-11/23/content_15953970.htm

And although the tablets are not specifically stated, the company has big plans for North America.

http://www.zdnet.com/cn/chinas-hisense-bets-on-us-to-grow-overseas-revenue-7000012453/

which brings me to my question:

has anyone given any thought to the possibility the price drop was an intentional move in anticipation of something in the works to be released soon?  Right before black friday maybe?  Or Christmas?

Many tablet/electronics companies do a price drop when something new is coming....  What do you think about that??

Not trying to start a rumor, just wondering........

I thought the price drop was more of a competitive move to put pressure on its close competitors.

Thanks for the links  Laura,  I was wondering the same thing.  I really interested in what they (Hisense) will develop in their product line.

The price for the Sero is great.  However, I'd like to see them bring out a newer model.  Even a 10".

you're welcome.

With a 32gb Sero in the UK.  And a release in Australia.  I think a bigger gb is coming.  Just my opinion, or maybe dream, lol.

I think the price drop was a response to other closely priced tablets/ The HP Slate 7 was $170 but they soon reduced it to $150 shortly after the successful uptake of the Sero 7 Pro. Also, the Asus Memo Pad HD 7 was priced at $150 when it was released. So the Hisense moved the Sero 7 Pro to $130.

And thanks for for the CNet link to the 32GB Sero 7 Pro.

you're welcome.

Hisense wants to be a household name in the US.  I think they're off to good start.  I'm hoping Walmart pushes the tablet a little more through the holidays.

My local walmart just did a big revamp of the store.  The exterior is painted in new colors - the blue is gone!  yeah.  And the entire inside is now re organized.

The electronics department now has a nice case with tablets on wire just like all the other stores around town.  The Hisense is right next to the galaxy tablet.   They sell the Hisense on a regular basis they have told me.  When they first came in the had a dozen, with in days they were down to only a few.  (pro model \ the lite sells slower ) They have more now.  So I guess around here, word is out. They also said they really don't know that much about them.  The distributor was suppose to bring them a manual with information in it and after a month still hadn't brought it to them.  But they said they don't get hardly any returns with them.  Some of the other tablets get returned often.

That is some good news to hear. My Fiancée and I bought one of the Pros for her. She seems very happy with it, using it primarily for Netflix, Hulu Plus, a few games, Facebook, and light web browsing. I don't want to have to ever take it back.

if you all compare the $129 price tag of the sero with the $229 price tag of the 'new' nexus, i think the price drop becomes clear. its walmart saying 'why buy this tablet when ours is good and its a whole hundred dollars cheaper'

I had noticed that Hisense was a major sponsor of the Australian Open tennis tournament last January. I thought that was interesting and am guessing that Hisense may be marketed more heavily in that part of the world.

maybe.  But Hisense is pretty big at walmart, here in the states.  They carry their TVs.  For whatever reason you don't see them advertise much.  Even their walmart exclusive Chrome books.  NEVER seen an ad for them.
