Setting up the Pro 7 with just the basic apps.

Something I have thought about that is for the average user what would be the better apps and what would be the unnecessary apps to remove from the 7? I am have now upgraded my internet access to two megs so I can download movies and such but I have not followed all of the discussion for such. I am not a big gamer as I imagine are most of the average users. I do read a lot of ebooks but now with the faster internet (here is Costa Rica it has been a long time coming but is still relying on in-country connections) so I can now download things or connect to places that were not worth trying before. I am rooted with the upgrade to KitKat which is stable (I may upgrade to Lollipop if it would be advantages for my usage). Thanks for any ideas.

Hey Art,
I'm running Dopa 5.0v1 (Lollipop 5.0.1) on a test Seto 7. I have not installed later versions because the Xposed framework is not yet up to speed for those versions. I can tell you that both GPS and wifi are more sensitive than with Liquidsmooth (Kitkat), and speed is a bit better too.

I was on the XDA site and thought I saw something about Xposed now working, it takes a lot of reading and head scratching to understand what some of the folks are posting. Also here is the links to the newest beta;

Android v5.1.0_r5 was released yesterday (?) and I've just finished building it. It gives me an excuse to try out something new and/or very old on y'all: ODEXing.
AOSP 5.1.0_r5 - DoPa5 v1.2 beta0
For the flashaholics, I've posted a new beta.

The major difference between this ROM and previous versions is that it is ODEXed. This may provide some improvement in performance and usable storage but will slightly reduce available space in your /system partition. It also includes some 'build.prop' settings that may help tame the Google SetupWizard.

LuckyMe:
Hi Art.

I don't remember what was in the stock anymore!  But there are several apps in there that could be removed, according to one's taste.

the walmart app.
the vodoo app.
I took out the one for tegra games (I think it was tegra central or something)

If you give a list of what you want to eliminate I can tell you if it's safe.  Anything you never use, stuff like that...

Apps I really like,  you may have heard me say them before, lol.

Important apps to consider as our tablets get older- apps to save wear and tear on your hardware buttons:

Smart launcher pro. - by far, in my opinion the best launcher out there.  Does the organizing for you.  The paid app lets you do a lot of customizing - colors, clock styles, themes are available.  Some are free and some are not.  A good feature to add is the " knock off ".  Install the plugin extras (free)  and turn it on.  It allows you to double tap the home screen to turn off the tablet.  It save some wear and tear on the power button.

Quick boot  An app to allow boot options without using the power button:

boot to recovery, restart, power off, bootloader

Virtual Button Bar-  Several different on screen buttons can be made with this app.  I use it to create volume buttons on my screen.  They float, anywhere you want them.  Easy to move by touching and holding if you change your mind or they get in your way. They are customizable by size and color.   I like them.  They'll save wear and tear on your volume buttons.

Other stuff:

ROM toolbox pro.  - combines a lot of apps into one.  Some of the things you can do with it:

control your CPU and kernel tweaks.

Change your font - a big way to change the entire look of your ROM, if you get bored a lot, lol.  :)   Newspaper is a good one, and easy to read.

get rid of the boot animation or change it completely

backup your apps and data- or one or the other.

has Terminal emulator if you ever need one.

root browser

edit your build.prop

EsFile3 File explorer-  I just think the layout is super easy to use.  Especially in landscape mode.

Link2SD -  for linking apps to the sd.  I haven't tried the plus version yet.

Viper4Android - best app for controlling and customizing sound on your tablet.  with or without your headphones on.  It's kind of complicated (in my opinion) to get it all adjusted the way you want.  So don't be afraid to play around with the settings.  You can always reset and start over.

A/I. type tablet keyboard plus with the ez reader theme added. - It just makes typing easier for me.  I like the split tablet and it's customizable by height and width.  So you can set it up for your own finger size.

Moon reader pro and the pdf plugin. -  a great reader app.

Fun stuff:

Virtual fireplace - For those romantic times when you need a fireplace!  lol.

Compass 360 Pro (free)  really fun to use.

car tunes media player pro

Stellarium Mobile sky map

I'm not a heavy game player.  So these games are easy and fun.

Beach Buggy Blitz

force your memory

Puzzle retreat

Istunt2

Hope you fine something you like!!  Have fun..
