downgrading from Lollipop to Kitkat
« on: January 24, 2016, 03:56:13 AM »
I'm still having problems with Lollipop on my Sero, apps closing, random rebooting. I am thinking off downgrading to the  (US/UK/AU) - AOSP 4.4.4_r2 DoPa v2.6 ROM. Would I have to wipe or format any cache/partions/SD card etc to do this or just copy the zip to the sd card, install the rom and then install gapps.

I'm no expert, but everything I've heard from other modding websites suggests that you wipe cache and delvik when you make a major change.  Some even suggest wiping them three times just to be on the safe side.

Hi.  Yes, a full wipe will be needed to downgrade from lollipop to kitkat.

You can try wiping/formatting data in lollipop first.  That might solve your issues.  When I say wiping/formatting, I mean the option in your custom recovery, not a factory reset..

Thanks for the replies. Not that it bothers me, but presumably a wipe/format will mean I loose all my installed apps

Use Titanium Backup it has a feature you can create a zip filee of all your user apps + data then flash the zip from TWRP after u install new ROM and GAPPS. Works well save a ton of rework.

BTW, I just went from Lolipop back to KK on mine too, try LiquidSmooth it the best KK I have seen very fast and tons of features.

Thanks for that, I'll take a look at liquidsmooth. I have titanium backup but I wasn't going to bother with a backup, I wanted to do a clean install,  I don't have too many apps to reload.

Actually, thinking about liquidsmooth, it doesn't say that it's compatible with the UK Sero, unless someone knows differently

Well I did try reflashing lollipop, it was certainly more stable, but still randomly rebooted. So I flashed the UK Kitkat rom. This is more stable than lollipop, with the power cable plugged in I've had no issues at all, but with the power cable out, and after it's been to sleep for a few minutes, then apps start closing and I have to reboot. I'll live with it, it may improve.......lol

You  shouldn't have to put up with that kind of behavior. Let's figure it out..

you reflashed lollipop, just to be sure..

 You rebooted to recovery

chose reformat data, which does a complete data wipe. You needed to do this.

 Then choose wipe cache

Then chose wipe dalvik

Then flashed  the rom of your choice and gapps.

Then wipe caches again.

Reboot system.

Upon rebooting, when setting up your tablet choose setup as a new device. Don't choose restore from a google backup.

The sero needs to reboot a few times after flashing. So after adding wifi and your accounts - mail and google - reboot the tablet.

Add your apps and reboot again.

This should give you a good running rom.

That's pretty much what I did, altho in recovery I used the Clean to install a new rom option (I think that's what it was called), I didn't wipe caches after tho. It was a clean setup, nothing from a backup.
I'm going to live with it at the moment, as long as I keep it from sleeping it's fine. Maybe if in a week it's still playing up I'll have another go.
I really appreciate your help Laura, I wouldn't have got this far without it. I'm also more confident in the dark art of rom flashing, so it's all good !

Hi again.  You're very welcome.

The wipe for a new rom/ flash ( or similarly worded) doesn't do a good job. The developer doesn't recommend using that option.

If you decide to try again, use the format data option.

Let me know if you need any help.

Okay, I'll use the format options if/when I have to. I find it odd tho that it's the same main problem of sleeping that I've had with both lollipop and Kitkat installs.

I will let you know when I need help, it's a promise !

This just occurred to me...I don't have my sero in front of me right now, so I can't remember where it's located.. but check the 'dream' settings-maybe called daydream.  Maybe turning it off or playing around with this can stop this misbehavior.
