Thanks Laura,
Excellent tutorial - takes the fear-factor out of the rooting process for us inexperienced new-comers.

You're welcome!

Well I've rooted my tablet, and all seemed to go well.   SuperSU is still there, even after a reboot.  I did it on my XP machine to avoid any driver signing issues.  The only thing that didn't happen was the Google app verify on SuperSU.  I don't know why, because I have that turned on under Security.  But it installed ok as far as I can tell.

Is it ok to turn off USB debugging after this process has been completed?

Anyway, thanks very much, Laura, for the guide.  It made things quite easy.  I think I mentioned before that I plan to encrypt the tablet.  Rooting should now allow me to have an encryption password that's different from, and much stronger than, the screen lock pin.

Yeah,  congrats.  As long as you have SU,  and it's Functioning,  don't worry about google verification Of apps as you said you have it on.

Yes,  you can turn debugging and developer off. Also 3rd party/ unknown. Apps in security.  When needed you can turn them on.

If you installed CWM:

Now it's time to read my tutorial on backing up. Make a nandroid backup before you encrypt.  It's a good habit.

How long did you give me before I upgraded to the Pro from the LT?

Well, I did it today  8)  I kept running out of storage space with all those games - even with Link2SD.

I just rooted and I wanted to say thank you for the easy-to-follow tutorial.

Cheers!  ;D

NEVERMIND...Developer Options had somehow gotten turned off...working fine now!
:D
Notes: On Windows XP, the first wizard to pop up may want to install drivers for "MTP" which XP doesn't support. If so, cancel out of that, then wait for the "Andoid Phone" wizard to appear. On later versions of Windows, you may get a popup warning that the drivers aren't signed properly; if so, select "Install driver anyway". On Win 8-64bit, driver installation will fail unless you started the current session with "Driver signature enforcement" disabled. "
On my XP computer the Sero 7 Pro is instantly recognized as an MTP Portable Device and doesn't run any driver installation that I can cancel. When I try to update driver and navigate to the downloaded Android drivers I get that windows "doesn't contain info about your device" thing. This computer does have drivers installed for my Optimus V (running last version of BACKside ROM) so maybe that's the problem.

I rooted my phone with oneclick and flashed the recovery two years ago without using a PC just to avoid this kind of crap...seems like along way to go just to avoid typing a dozen lines of code on a terminal emulator. Any ideas how to force the Android drivers or instructions for a PC free alternative? Thanks!

OK, All rooted, flashed, and ROMed! Now it seems much more like my own tablet rather than a rental from Walmart - Thanks for the tutorial!

One thing I don't understand is why I still can't seem to move files from the PC to the Sero 7 Pro when it's connected via USB and recognized as a drive in XP, etc. I can transfer all kind of files between my phone and PC...but I'm probably just overlooking something, and it's off-topic for this thread anyway. Getting late...

Ok, so in this process i hit a brick wall. When I open SuperSU, It says exactly this: "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
What do I have to do to get the SU binary???? :-X

It won't hurt to run the entire package again.  If you want root and clockwork mod click on step0 do it all.
Follo on screen instructions.

What if it says driver not installed or can't be installed. Can I still perform the cwm installer. Does it have to be in fastboot mode to install cwm from PC or normal mode. Because my PC won't read my tabket .
